Planning A Baby Shower Menu That Everyone Will Remember

October 10th, 2010

Throwing a party for a mother to be is a great way of showing her how special she is. There will be many things to consider before the day of the party such as who to invite and what games to play, but neither of those things are as important as the perfect baby shower menu.

A baby shower requires a lot of planning and quite a bit of prep work. The part that everyone will remember is the food and by planning the perfect menu it is likely that their memories will be good.

There will be many things to consider before setting up the menu such as how many people are coming, what type of food preferences everyone has, and your time restrictions. Once you have figured those things out you will be ready to plan your baby shower.

Planning the menu

Deciding on the right baby shower menu is the most important part of the party. The important thing is to make it fun and give everyone plenty of choices.

Do remember to find out what everyone likes and plan something for both vegetarians and others who have special eating needs. It is also important to find out if anyone has specific food allergies. Someone with an allergic reaction could cause a lot of problems during your party. There are many options to choose from for your party menu.

For the appetizer: You need to choose wisely with this one since it is the first thing that your guests will be eating. There are many lovely options that you can serve like cream cheese filled tortilla roll ups that are great cut up into small pinwheels, dip and cut up vegetables, spinach dip with either tortilla chips or pitas, and of course an all time favorite of most people like chips and salsa. Don’t forget to get mild for the mommy to be so you don’t send her home with heartburn and indigestion.

How about some punch: Although you can easily serve some coffee, tea, or soda at the shower, the main drink will likely be the punch. White grape punch is a good choice as is a delicious sherbet punch with pineapple juice and any sherbet you choose.

If you know which sex the baby is then you may want to color code the punch to fit in with that theme. Pink lemonade or berry blue drink both are wonderful options.

Salad: The best main dish for a baby shower is some type of salad. Chinese chicken salad is always a hit and it offers a great variety of options. Another great option is a chicken salad with apples and grapes in it. Either one will be a great addition to any shower.

The cake: This is the centerpiece of your shower. Consider the sex of the baby or the theme of the nursery when purchasing a cake. Some bakeries have several premade designs that you might want to choose from, or you may want to have a specially customized cake that will go well with the theme of the party.

Baby showers are fabulous and a great way for everyone to show the expectant mother their support. Planning a good menu will make the entire day just perfect.

The History Of Kids’ Rings

August 24th, 2010

The tradition of giving rings, or jewelry in general, to children dates back thousands of years. In the old civilizations of Africa, Europe, America and Asia, a common practice was to decorate a newborn child with jewelry upon his or her birth. Jewelry, especially that which featured symbols such as ankhs or gemstones such as moonstone, was thought to help a child achieve luck and status.

In the Mediterranean world, many families still pierce their babies’ ears so that they can decorate them with gold hoop earrings – a tradition that dates back to the ancient world. They also frequently gift newborn babies with crucifix necklaces in gold – a practice that recalls that region’s ancient tradition of giving children protective amulets.

In modern Europe, jewelry for kids took on a special social significance. A common practice among parents was to give children special family jewelry upon their birth and on successive birthdays. Rings in precious metal or set with gemstones were expensive, and communicated to the child that they were increasingly responsible for the family’s wealth and safety.

The idea of birthstone jewelry dates back hundreds of years – even, as in the case of Indian Aruveydic philosophy – thousands. Many people believed that birthstones had the effect of bringing luck to their wearer. In Europe, birthstone jewelry became a popular gift for children in the 19th and 20th centuries. Birthstone rings sized especially for babies became a particularly popular gift to commemorate a child’s birth.

The significance of kids’ rings is different in different cultures. In the West, rings are typically considered most appropriate for female babies and children. However, many African societies still give rings to their baby boys, along with necklaces, bracelets, and body jewelry. In the 20th century, hip hop culture was born in America, and with it, a new tradition of jewelry for males. Many American families now give gold and gemstone jewelry, including rings, to male babies and young boys.

The birthstone kids’ ring, sized to fit a newborn child, is currently the most popular form of jewelry for children. People give a child a ring not only to celebrate his or her birth, but to gift him or her with a keepsake piece of jewelry. Once the child is grown, he or she can have it re-designed into a new item that will commemorate his or her heritage.
